BRÉAGHA Wolfgang of the Bird & Bear in Dundee has been crowned the winner of drinks supplier Matthew Clark’s 2019 Stir It Up cocktail competition.
This year’s Stir It Up theme focused on ‘discovery’, with the judging panel keeping an eye out for serves that encapsulated new trends, or delivered a ‘futuristic’ take on a classic.
Bréagha’s winning cocktail, Puget Rock, was said to be inspired by the Dundee Antarctic Whaling Expedition of 1893 and met the judges’ criteria “on many levels” with its blend of cherry, orange, black pepper and seaweed flavours with Reyka vodka.
The contest, which is run in collaboration with 12 spirits brands and is now in its second year, is designed to give bartenders the chance to shine and show off their mixology skills.
As well as lifting the Stir It Up trophy, Bréagha won a two-night stay in Reykjavik for two, provided by Rekya Vodka parent firm William Grant & Sons, a lead sponsor of this year’s competition.
Ceri Lewis, trade marketing and promotions senior manager of Matthew Clark, said: “We’re delighted that the Stir It Up competition has been a great success again this year, and would like to congratulate Bréagha and all the finalists on their fantastic achievements.”
