London-based Portobello Road Gin has teamed up with Dire Straits’ frontman Mark Knopfler OBE on its third ‘local heroes’ gin.

The special edition varietal, which launched last month, features botanicals, including lime peel, cucumber and olive oil, which are combined with the gin’s nine signature botanicals.

The resulting liquid is said to offer a “strong spice flavour and heat”, which is “tempered by the coolness of cucumber”.

The label for the gin, which was designed by Knopfler and creative agency Analogue, is said to have been inspired by the Dire Straits frontman’s passion for guitars; the inside label of each bottle features an image of Knopfler’s famous 1937 14-fret National Style O Resonator. And, in a nod to when the frontman sported a headband for live performances, each bottle sports a miniature red headband.

Jake Burger, co-founder of Portobello Road Gin, said these limited releases “embody the spirit of Portobello Road”.
