Catch of the day in Orkney

Merkister Hotel
The hotel is said to be one of the islands’ best small hotels.

OPERATORS fishing for a new island business may be interested in The Merkister Hotel on the edge of Loch Harray in Orkney, which is considered one of the best brown trout fishing lochs in Scotland.

The hotel, which is said to be regarded as one of the islands’ best small hotels, comprises 16 en suite letting rooms, three of which are located in a separate block, a 60-cover restaurant and lounge bar.

Externally the hotel has access to a pier on the loch, a boathouse and moorings; six fishing boats and outboards are included in the sale.

Stuart Drysdale, director at Christie & Co, who is handling the sale, said: “Popular with tourists and fishing parties, the hotel’s level of repeat business is testament to the quality and service provided over 35 years of ownership.”

Offers over £1.65 million are sought for the freehold.
