Speyside’s smokier side

The new malt is “rich and intense”

A SWEET and fruity whisky with a “seriously smoky edge” is how the new limited-batch expression from the Benromach Distillery has been described.

Benromach Peat Smoke Sherry Cask Matured is the first sherried peat smoke expression from the Gordon & MacPhail-owned Speyside distillery in Forres and has been matured in first-fill sherry hogsheads laid down in 2010 before being bottled last year.

Keith Cruickshank, distillery manager at Benromach, said the balanced marriage of sherry notes and peat smoke in the 59.9% ABV single malt gives rise to a “spectacularly rich and intense dram”.

He added: “For those that enjoy Benromach’s classic style with a wisp of smoke, we’re confident that this new expression will be particularly popular.”
