Speyside distiller’s Sweet 16

BENRIACH, the Speyside distillery owned by Brown-Forman, has reintroduced a 16 year-old expression to its core range six years after the previous 16 was discontinued.

The new expression, which sits between the distillery’s 12 year-old and 21 year-old single malts, is matured in a combination of ex-sherry, ex-bourbon and virgin oak casks and is bottled at 43% ABV.

It is described as having notes of baked apple, hazelnut malt and ginger-spiced apricot on the nose, with spiced stewed apple, stone fruit and nutty oak on the palate.

“The return of Benriach The Sixteen is a very special moment for the distillery as it is one of our most treasured expressions,” said master blender Rachel Barrie.

“Our signature Speyside style blossoms at 10 years-old, finding depth and richer layers of orchard fruit character as it turns sixteen.

“Our core flavour components of fruit, malt and oak become more concentrated, enriched with age at sixteen years-old, bringing layers of stone fruit, smooth creamy malt, wild honey and nutty oak spice.”
