Hotel renovation a hole in one

THE Machrie Hotel and Links on Islay’s Laggan Bay is set to reopen this month following a major refurbishment and expansion.

The project turned the former 16-bedroom hotel into a mix of 47 rooms, suites and lodges.

The Victorian hotel’s restaurant, which will major in Scottish produce, overlooks The Machrie Links Golf Course’s 18th hole and the Atlantic Ocean, while its bar has a focus on whisky, in part comprised of releases from the island’s eight distilleries.

The design of the resort’s golf course is also said to have been “fully modernised” by ex-pro and former Ryder Cup vice-captain DJ Russell.

Gordon Campbell Gray, founder of parent firm Campbell Gray Hotels, said: “Our vision is that it will be everything one would wish for in a hotel on a beautiful Scottish island.”
