RESTAURATEUR Tony Crolla has been awarded one of the highest civilian honours in Italy in recognition of his passion for Italian food, drink and culture.

Crolla, whose Vittoria Group operates restaurants across Edinburgh, was presented with the Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy, known as a ‘Cavaliere’, earlier this month at the Stockbridge Church by Italy’s ambassador to the UK, His Excellency Raffaele Trombetta.

Carlo Perrotta, Italian consulate general in Edinburgh, said the award is a “well-deserved acknowledgement of [Crolla’s] achievements as a successful entrepreneur who has provided employment for many young Italians coming to work in Scotland”.

Accepting the award, Crolla said: “I must also take this opportunity to thank my family for their continued support and commitment over the years, our wonderful staff and suppliers who have helped my family build a business we are proud of, and, of course, the thousands of customers who support us across all our venues enjoying the hospitality we are famous for.”
