C&C Group to buy Matthew Clark

TENNENT’S and Magners owner C&C Group has confirmed it is in “advanced discussions” to buy Matthew Clark and Bibendum with backing from AB InBev.

C&C said the proposed acquisition, which would include their subsidiary businesses Catalyst, Peppermint, Elastic and Walker & Wodehouse, is conditional upon the appointment of administrators to Matthew Clark and Bibendum parent company, Conviviality Brands Limited, which is expected to happen later today.

If the acquisition goes ahead, C&C said Matthew Clark Bibendum will be run as a separate business.

C&C Group chief executive Stephen Glancey, said: “The last few weeks have been challenging for employees, customers and suppliers alike.

“We hope today’s announcement can put an end to this period of disruption and uncertainty.

“We look-forward to working with our new colleagues and other stakeholders to bring stability and restore the group’s position as one of the leading and most respected drinks suppliers to the UK hospitality sector.”
