THE way in which non-domestic rates are calculated and income tax bands are set to change after the Scottish Budget was passed last week.

Rates will now be set in line with CPI rather than RPI inflation, which should result in lower increases.

The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) criticised increases to higher income tax bands that will see Scots earning over £33,000 pay more.

Also included in finance secretary Derek Mackay’s plans was a commitment to retain the Small Business Bonus Scheme.
