AN Edinburgh licensee has teamed up with a charity which aims to tackle global food poverty – Mary’s Meals – to provide school children in the Tigray region of northern Ethiopia with a meal a day.
Virginie Brouard, owner of Edinburgh outlets La P’tite Folie restaurant and Le Di-Vin wine bar, and who was Highly Commended in the Unsung Hero category at this year’s SLTN Awards, has worked closely with Mary’s Meals to begin providing children with the first meals.
The licensee has raised funds for the charity by adding £1 per table to the cost of a meal, raising around £1000 a month. In addition to food, her funds have helped pay for resources such as tables and chairs and fresh water.
Meals were provided to the first three schools in October, and that number will rise to ten schools in 2018.
