Back to leave a cocktail legacy

Leon Back of Edinburgh’s Panda & Sons with his winning cocktail

EDINBURGH bartender Leon Back has made the UK final of the Bacardi Legacy cocktail competition after creating the winning drink in the Scottish heat.

Competing against various mixologists at The Voodoo Rooms in Edinburgh, all of whom were tasked with creating the next classic “that will stand the test of time”, the Panda & Sons bartender impressed judges with his serve, which was described as an “incredibly delicious and well-balanced drink”. Back’s creation, The Queen Street cocktail, consists of Bacardi Carta Blanca, lemon juice, sugar, Martini Ambrato, celery bitters and a spritz of Islay whisky.

Metinee Kongsrivilai of Bacardi said it was a “difficult deliberation”, with Scotland now home to “a thriving cocktail culture”.

Back will compete in the UK final in Amsterdam next month against five finalists from across the country for a spot in the global final.
