Rare selection combines over 350 years of whisky maturation
WHOLESALER and malt whisky specialist, Gordon & MacPhail, has launched a limited edition collection that brings together six successive years of single malts from one distillery.
The Gordon & MacPhail Glen Grant Collection is a set of six rare expressions from the Speyside distillery with a bottle selected from each year between 1950 and 1955.
Since the company’s genesis in 1895, Gordon & MacPhail has collaborated with distilleries across Scotland, by sending empty casks to be filled with new make spirit and subsequently matured under the watchful eyes of owners, the Urquhart family.
This collection is a testament to the company’s ability to nurture aged expressions.
Two of the new collection have already picked up awards. The Rare Vintage Glen Grant 1954 won a double gold award at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2017, while Whisky Bible author Jim Murray acknowledged the 1952 expression this year with the accolade for Single Malt 41 Years & Over.
Stephen Rankin, director and member of the fourth generation of the Urquhart family, said: “By creating this collection, we have captured a unique piece of Scotland’s liquid history, bringing together a combined 353 years of knowledge, expertise and whisky maturation.
“With six whiskies aged between 57 and 61 years old, this collection is a testament to the company’s ability to nurture aged expressions.”
