OPERATORS have just two days left in which to appeal their business’s 2017 rateable value (RV).
The new RVs, which took effect on April 1, have seen some licensed trade businesses faced with hikes of several hundred per cent; a 12-month 14.75% real terms cap on increases, which can be applied for via local authorities, has been extended to 2018/2019 by finance secretary Derek Mackay (see page two).
However, licensees who want to appeal their business’s RV have until September 30 to do so.
Niall Rankin, lead director for rating in Scotland at property firm JLL, said: “The latest revaluation will lock businesses into a rating assessment which, without an appeal, will be difficult to challenge for five years.”
