ABERDEEN bartender Ryan Rhodes will head to Nicaragua next month after being named UK champion in a cocktail competition.
The contest, for Nicaraguan rum brand Flor de Caña, took place at Glasgow’s Drygate and saw bartenders from Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh competing for the title of UK Rum Frontier Champion.
Rhodes won the contest with his cocktail, Lava Flava, and will now head to Flor de Caña’s home country for six days, where he will have the chance to take part in a range of activities and tours in addition to competing in the global final of the competition.
“RumFrontiers was a fantastic event; we witnessed some of the most exciting bartenders from the UK come together to learn and create with Flor de Caña premium rum,” said Jonathan Gillbanks of Whyte & Mackay, the firm behind Flor de Caña in the UK.
“The creations from the competitors were truly outstanding.”
The other finalists in the UK competition were: Alex Palumbo of Sygn, Edinburgh; Giorgios Terzakis, Bon Vivant, Edinburgh; and Jamie Buchan, Kelvingrove Café, Glasgow.
