BAR, restaurant and hotel staff are being urged to get ready for the roll out of the new £1 coin, which goes into circulation in less than two weeks time.
The new 12-sided coin (pictured above) will enter circulation on March 28; its round predecessor will lose its legal tender status on October 15.
The UK Treasury said the 12-sided £1 coin will be the most secure coin in the world with a number of new security features, including a hologram which is designed to prevent counterfeits.
“Our message is clear: if you have a round one pound coin sitting at home or in your wallet, you need to spend it or return it to your bank before October 15,” said David Gauke, chief secretary to the Treasury.
