A SCOTTISH castle that recently underwent a multi-million pound refurbishment took top honours at the Northern Design Awards in Leeds earlier this month.
Borthwick Castle, on the outskirts of Edinburgh, topped the hotel interior design category, seeing off competition from a shortlist of ten finalists.
The 600 year old castle’s new-look interior was the work of Design Direction.
The project, which was led by Design Direction’s Melanie Brown, saw the castle revamped and restored over an 18-month period to create a 12-bedroom hotel.
Borthwick general manager Ewan Grant said he was proud to see the work of Brown and her team recognised.
“Our congratulations go to Melanie and her team on receiving this award,” said Grant.
“As anyone who has visited Borthwick Castle recently will know, behind the stone castle walls there now lies a magical experience for guests.”
