The owner of single malts Tamdhu and Glengoyne has added a Caribbean rum brand to its portfolio.
Ian Macleod Distillers – the Broxburn-based family-owned distiller, blender and bottler – took over the UK distribution for Atlantico rum last month; the company already distributes Edinburgh Gin and the Pig’s Nose and Sheep Dip blended Scotch whiskies.
Produced in the Dominican Republic, Atlantico Rum is said to embody “traditional, hand-crafted quality”.
There are three rums in the Atlantico range: a Platino white rum which is described as “incredibly smooth and flavourful”; a Reserva – a blend of carefully-selected aged rums; and Atlantico’s Private Cask – a blend of solera-aged rums aged up to 25 years old.
Neil Boyd, commercial director at Ian Macleod Distillers, said the distribution deal is a “great validation” for the company.
“Atlantico adds an exotic dimension to our diverse and ever-growing family,” he said.
“We’re excited to work closely with the team behind such an adventurous brand and look forward to developing successful retail opportunities across the UK.”
Brandon Leib, co-founder and partner of Atlantico Importing Company, said the distribution deal will help the brand tap into the growing cocktail and mixed drinks trend.
“We have long admired both the Ian Macleod portfolio and their management team’s approach to bringing products to market,” said Leib.
“We are very pleased to begin working with them as we look to continue our expansion efforts across the UK.”
