Tennent Caledonian Breweries has confirmed that its Caledonia Best ale will sponsor Scottish Rugby for a further three years.
The deal will see Caledonia Best continue as the official beer to the Scotland national team, Edinburgh Rugby and Glasgow Warriors until 2018.
It will also see the company’s other brands, including Tennent’s Lager, Black T and Magners Ice Cold, continue to be poured at Murrayfield and Scotstoun stadiums.
Tennent Caledonian claims the extended deal will bring the company’s investment in Scottish Rugby up to seven figures.
“We are delighted to renew our partnership with Scottish Rugby, which continues to support the development of the sport, here in Scotland,” said Alastair Campbell, managing director of Tennent Caledonian Breweries.
“With the recent performance of the national team at the Rugby World Cup, Glasgow Warriors becoming the first Scottish pro team to win a major piece of silverware and Edinburgh reaching a showcase European final, Scottish rugby is certainly on the up and we’re very excited for what the next chapter might bring.”
To mark the continued partnership, the company subsidised travel for more than 1000 Glasgow and Edinburgh fans to the 1872 Scottish Cup derby matches on December 27 and January 2.
Fans were able to buy bus tickets to the matches online for £8.72 each.
Dominic McKay, chief executive of Scottish Rugby, said the initiative was a “fantastic gesture to fans”.
“We look forward to working on similar projects with the Caledonia Best team in the coming months,” said McKay.
