MICHELIN star chef and restaurateur Tom Kitchin has teamed up with Isle of Skye Brewing Co to launch a new beer.
Named ‘Yer Ben’ after Kitchin’s grandfather Ben Robinson, the 5.5% ABV beer is the result of a collaboration between the chef and Isle of Skye Brewing Co’s brewers Pam MacRuary and Mags Newlands – both of whom are former chefs.
Yer Ben was launched at Leith gastro-pub The Scran & Scallie, a joint venture between Kitchin and fellow Michelin star chef Dominic Jack, and is also available from the Isle of Skye Brewing Co shop and online.
The new brew is said to have been created to meet demand from diners at The Scran & Scallie for a premium ale to pair with their meal.
Kitchin said teaming up with Isle of Skye Brewing Co was a “hugely enjoyable learning experience”.
“I’m fanatical about the quality, locality and freshness of the ingredients that go into every dish I serve and I’m no less passionate and committed to knowing all about the origins of the drinks we serve and enjoy,” he said.
“To play a part in what went into the product and how it looked and tasted was a real joy for me.
“The light, refreshing recipe suits all palates and I hope ale fans enjoy Yer Ben as much as we’ve enjoyed creating it.”
Kenny Webster, Isle of Skye Brewing Co’s MD, said working with Kitchin on Yer Ben was a “natural fit”.
“He’s been part of the process throughout, exploring our home in Skye, working with our brewers,” said Webster.
“The final product reflects his taste, personality and passion for Scotland, matched with the expertise of our brewers and the produce we have access to in Skye.
“From its taste, to its look and the story behind it, matched with the drama and passion of the Isle of Skye, we believe Yer Ben really delivers.”
