The spirits are new in St Andrews

Kingsbarns Distillery in St Andrews is offering its visitor centre customers the chance to buy new make spirit before it has been through the maturation process.

The distillery, which opened its doors to visitors in November last year, started distilling in January and is now ready to offer the new spirit ahead of the mandatory maturation period of three years and one day required for a whisky to be considered Scotch.

The spirit is bottled at 63.5% ABV – the same strength at which the casks are filled.

Distillery manager Peter Holroyd said the spirit is “elegant, fruity and floral”, adding that he “can’t wait to see how it is going to develop into Scotch whisky over the coming years”.
