WORK to raise the profile of Glasgow’s Sauchiehall Street – and the venues on it – in the run up to this summer’s Commonwealth Games is underway.

The team tasked with implementing the measures outlined in the Sauchiehall Street Business Improvement District (BID) plan staged its first meeting, kicking off a five-year strategy to enhance the non-pedestrianised section of the street and establish it as the city’s ‘premier entertainment destination’.
Under the BID initiative, bar, nightclub, restaurant and casino owners pay 1% of their business’s rateable value into the BID fund, which is expected to generate £180,000. Money will fund marketing campaigns and improvements to the street.
Brian Fulton, chair of the BID team and a director of Garage nightclub owner Hold Fast Entertainment, told SLTN: “The first aim is to maximise the profile of the street ahead of the Commonwealth Games so visitors know about the diverse range of outlets on offer.”
