THE Scotch Whisky Experience has recorded the highest number of visitors in its 25-year history.
The visitor attraction on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, which is in the final stages of a major refurbishment, welcomed a total of 300,000 people through its doors last year, an increase of 11.5% on the previous year.
More than 155,000 people completed the tour, up 12.3% on the 2012 figure.
Over three quarters (79%) of those who visited the Scotch Whisky Experience in 2013 were from outside the UK.
Most of the visitors came from the USA, followed by France and then Germany; and there was an increase in the number of visitors from emerging whisky markets such as China (+20%), Brazil (+26%) and India (+29%).
“We don’t rest on our laurels, though, and are always looking for ways to improve the visitor experience, with the final stages of our five-year renovation process currently underway,” said head of marketing Julie Trevisan-Hunter.
