A DUNFERMLINE lessee claims he’s reaping the benefits of a new online staff training resource.

Peter Connor, who runs Monty’s – a traditional ground floor pub and first-floor rock bar in the Fife town under a Star Pubs & Bars lease – signed up to the pubco’s e-learning package, which is being rolled out to its lessees by training firm CPL Online.
The training programme comprises 24 accredited courses grouped into three main areas: compliance, including age verification and food hygiene; soft skills, which takes in up-selling and cellar management; and personal development, covering staff appraisal and time management skills.
The online system allows staff to log on at any time and work at their own pace on their chosen modules, which they receive a certificate for once successfully completed.
Connor, who took over Monty’s 18 months ago, told SLTN the online system has brought greater flexibility when it comes to training for the venue’s seven staff.
“It saves an awful lot of time,” he said. “I did all the staff training myself before, which was quite time consuming, but this offers much more flexibility as the staff can do it as and when they have time and go at their own pace.
“It’s been a good refresher for the staff and there are some differences to the training I had given them so it covers everything.”
“There’s a dashboard on the system so I can keep track of who’s doing what and at the end of each course the staff get a certificate, which is great.”
