Budget chain to launch compact rooms

EDINBURGH is expected to be among the first locations for a new hotel brand from the firm behind Premier Inn.

Hub by Premier Inn is to offer compact rooms in several UK cities, starting with a hotel on St Martin’s Lane in London scheduled for summer 2014.
Whitbread said the concept for the new ‘hub’ rooms, which measure 11.4 square metres, was influenced by customer consultation. Since June 2012 five prototype rooms have been available at the Premier Inn Kings Cross with customer feedback taken from each guest.
Hub by Premier Inn will offer guests an app, which will allow them to control room temperature, light settings, pre-order meals, and control the TV and radio from mobile devices.
Whitbread has secured five sites to open in the next three years, with a target of 40 by 2018. “With substantial operating and commercial synergies from our Premier Inn network, we are confident that Hub will deliver good returns for our shareholders,” said Whitbread chief executive Andy Harrison.
