Bourbon aiming to go wild in bars

Wild Turkey 81 was launched in the UK last year for use in long drinks and cocktails.

THE firm behind Wild Turkey is looking to expand the presence of its Wild Turkey 81 bourbon in the UK on-trade following the appointment of a UK brand ambassador.

Wild Turkey 81, a blend of six, seven and eight year old bourbons which was launched last year, is designed specifically for use in cocktails or with mixers. Martin Taylor was appointed UK brand ambassador for the bourbon earlier this year, with the task of increasing the profile of Wild Turkey 81 through bartender training and tasting sessions.
It is the first whiskey to be created solely by Wild Turkey associate distiller Eddie Russell, son of master distiller Jimmy Russell.
Eddie said the expression was created for bourbon drinkers that consume the spirit mixed.
“I discovered those folks who didn’t want the punch of Wild Turkey 101 were sorely disappointed by other whiskies that disappeared like a fox down a hole when mixed with things like cola,” he said.
“So with Jimmy’s blessing, I developed Wild Turkey 81 – an everyday whiskey that can stand up to any mixer or in any cocktail with the bold, in-your-face taste that is distinctively Wild Turkey.”
