Appy days for Scots tech firm

• Consumers can order via their phone.

A NEW app which allows consumers to order food and drink in bars and restaurants via their smartphones is to be rolled out across the UK.

Dubbed ‘the waiter in your pocket’, the QikServe mobile app was launched by Midlothian-based QikServe last year and is now set to be made available across the country with support from Clydesdale Bank.
The technology works by allowing consumers to ‘check in’ by scanning a Quick Response (QR) code on the table; the code includes the information to identify the outlet and table location.
QikServe chief executive Ronnie Forbes said the technology can help diners save time and operators improve service. “In the next few years, we aim to become the dominant player in the UK, Canada, and the US,” he said.
Stuart McCallum, head of food and drink for Clydesdale Bank in Scotland, said the app could “revolutionise” dining out for businesses and consumers.
