GLASGOW bars are gearing up for a bumper week of sport – with a little help from Heineken UK.
The brewer has selected 30 outlets in five ‘circuits’ across the city to act as Heineken ambassador outlets for the Heineken Cup Final on Saturday (May 18) and the final of the UEFA Champions League, which is also sponsored by Heineken, the following Saturday (May 25).
The chosen venues, which include five ‘flagship’ outlets – Campus on Sauchiehall Street, Sloans on Argyle Street, The Admiral on Waterloo Street, Faktory on Byres Road and the Church on the Hill on the south side – will be kitted out with Heineken point of sale material, banners and back-bar displays.
Heineken said the activity aims to help operators drive footfall and boost beer sales.
Carlo Citti, owner of Campus, which won SLTN’s Year of Sport Award for 2012, said the venue will be showing all the games on its eight HD and 3D big screens.
“Heineken are going to dress Campus and we’ll be serving two-pint stein glasses,” he said.
“Sport is huge at Campus and we’re looking forward to a couple of good weekends.”
