Whisky exports worth record high despite volume slide

THE value of Scotch whisky exports has reached a record high, despite a drop in the volume of the spirit being shipped overseas.

New figures from the Scotch Whisky Association show the value of whisky exported last year was up 1% to £4.27 billion.
However, the volume of whisky shipped overseas last year fell 5% to 1.19 billion 70cl bottles from 1.26bn the previous year, which the SWA said reflected an increased demand for premium blended Scotch whisky and the growing popularity of single malts.
SWA chief executive Gavin Hewitt said whisky exports have risen by 87% in the last ten years.
“Scotch whisky continues to lead the way for UK food and drink exports,” he said.
