Thinking inside the box

ONCE disdained by wine drinkers, attitudes towards boxed and screw top wines are changing, according to new research.

A recent study from Mintel found that 32% of wine drinkers now think wine in a box or pouch is just as good quality as bottled wine, with only 26% considering it to be inferior. Screw tops are proving to be even less of an issue, with just 17% of wine drinkers saying they distrusted wines with such closures.
“Recent years have seen many wine drinkers reappraising their perceptions and use of wine in differing formats and packaging styles,” said Chris Wisson, senior drinks analyst at Mintel.
“Boxed wine has the added advantage of the wine keeping for a longer period of time than in a bottle, facilitating more flexible usage and encouraging moderate drinking.”
