College aims to bridge gap

MOTHERWELL College is introducing training courses in the UK Government’s WorldHost certification programme ahead of the Commonwealth Games in 2014.

WorldHost was created after government research identified a shortage in customer service skills within the UK hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism sectors.
Garry Allan, head of the department for hospitality and professional cookery at the Lanarkshire college, said the training will aim to “equip young people and professionals with the skills needed to complement the country’s rich heritage.”
“Food and customer service is paramount to the impression our nation gives to its visitors, and in 2014 we will be showcasing the very best of Scotland on a global stage,” he added.
