Whisky body to celebrate centenary

THE Scotch Whisky Association is preparing to celebrate its centenary in style this year, with a major exhibition at the Scottish Parliament and a brochure documenting the industry’s key milestones of the past 100 years.

The lobby group has also commissioned Liz Lochhead, Scots Makar or national poet, to write a poem for the occasion, which will be unveiled at a special event in Edinburgh in June.
The Scotch Whisky: From Grain to Glass exhibition will be at the Scottish Parliament from November 29 to January 25, 2013; and a brochure tracking the industry’s achievements will be launched alongside a study on Scotch whisky’s economic impact in the last 100 years.
“This year is about celebrating the colourful past and looking forward to a successful future for Scotch whisky,” said SWA chief executive Gavin Hewitt.
