Glasgow cafe keeps its cool

IT may be more than 80 years old, but Coia’s Cafe in Glasgow’s east end has been kept bang up to date by the family that owns it.

Alfredo Coia, the third generation to run the business, has installed what’s claimed to be the only circular rotating ice-cream servery. And he said profits have trebled since he installed the machine, which he bought from Clydebank-based New Concept.
“Most units are square, so the minute you bring in something circular it’s a real design challenge,” he said. “We were almost designing the extension around the ice-cream servery!”
