The Glasgow Distillery has passed another major milestone with the release of its first ten year-old peated single malt.
Limited to just 550 bottles, the release is a marriage of three ex-bourbon casks – two refill casks and a first-fill barrel – and is bottled at 54% ABV at its natural colour and non chill-filtered.
The Glasgow Distillery began producing peated spirit in 2016 – a year after its non-peated spirit.
The distillery now produces three distinct styles of spirit: double-distilled non-peated, double-distilled peated, and triple-distilled non-peated. That double-distilled peated spirit is now being produced for five months of each year.
While the Glasgow spirit is matured in a wide range of casks, the distillery chose ex-bourbon casks for the ten year-old peated release in order to ‘allow the character of the spirit and its decade of maturation to take centre stage’.
Sebastian Bunford-Jones, head of sales and marketing, said: “Reaching ten years with our peated single malt feels like a really significant moment for us.
“Peated production has become an important part of what we do at The Glasgow Distillery, so for this release we wanted to keep things deliberately simple and let the spirit speak for itself.
“Ex-Bourbon cask maturation have given us a whisky that really shows how our peated spirit has developed over a decade, while retaining the character we’ve been building since those first runs in 2016.
“Expect notes of roasted pineapple, soft smoke, gentle vanilla, waxy lemon and dried orange peel.
“With only 550 bottles, it’s a small release, but an important one for the distillery.”
The whisky is described as having both delicate bonfire smoke and a honeyed sweetness, with notes of tropical fruits and citrus.
