Quintessential football pub down on Leith Walk is up for grabs

The Harp and Castle on Leith Walk

Well-known community pub The Harp & Castle, on Leith Walk in Edinburgh, is now up for sale through Christie & Co.

Described as a ‘quintessential institution with deep roots in local football culture’, The Harp & Castle first opened as The Tommy Younger Bar, named after the legendary Hibs and Liverpool goalkeeper.

It became The Harp & Castle under the current ownership of Richard Currie, who has operated the pub for over 26 years.

Currie has built a loyal following for the pub, but Christie & Co said that there was still significant scope for growth, including opportunities to introduce a food offering, themed nights, or craft beer options.

The interior features traditional wooden finishes and seating for 200, complemented by an outdoor space seating up to 30.

Preparing to hand over the reins of the well-loved pub, Richard Currie said: “We’d like to say a big thank you to all customers past and present. Without you, the pub wouldn’t have been such a success!”

Simon Watson at Christie & Co said: “The Harp & Castle is a perfect example of a traditional pub.

“It is not very often that a freehold opportunity like this becomes available in such a prominent part of Edinburgh.”

The asking price is for offers over £800,000.
