On the famous NC500 route around the north coast of Scotland, Mackays Hotel in Wick has just come onto the market via Christie & Co.
Built in 1883, Mackays Hotel is a traditional stone-built property containing a bistro, whisky bar, breakfast room, and function rooms with a capacity of 160 guests.
There are 30 ensuite bedrooms ranging from superior to family rooms. Separate from the hotel, there is a self-contained block of six apartments, each offering a double bedroom, lounge, kitchen and bathroom, as well as two townhouses and a vacant church building – all of which are also available by way of separate negotiation.
The commercial and tourist town of Wick is a hub for some of Scotland’s most recognisable attractions, in particular John O’Groats, as well as close to the ferry links to Orkney and only a few hours from Inverness.
Within the town, the hotel is in a prime riverside location between Union Street and Ebenezer Place.
After 42 years in charge, the current owners feel it is time for a fresh investment to continue Mackays’ award-winning traditions.
Director of hotels at Christie & Co, Gary Witham, said: “It is unusual to be able to offer a sizeable, award-winning hotel so well located along the NC500.
“Mackays offers the chance to develop the business further through the hotel itself, but also through developing the adjacent apartments and townhouses, which provide a more self-contained option.”
Mackays Hotel is on the market with a freehold asking price of £1,200,000.
