Cyde Valley favourite, The Popinjay Hotel, has been acquired by the Melville Hotels Group in a confidential deal brokered by Graham + Sibbald.

An eye-catching Tudor-style hotel property in the South Lanarkshire village of Rosebank, The Popinjay is currently a 34-bedroom hotel, with a bar, lounge, restaurant, function facilities, and garden, all with a long history of catering for meetings/conferences, weddings, and events.

Described as a great base for guests looking to explore the rural countryside of South Lanarkshire, Rosebank is also readily accessible to and from Glasgow, via the M74. It was also noted that, alongside the hotel, there is land extending to over 1.3 acres which could offer development potential.

It is now the eighth hotel in the Melville group, where CEO Thomas Melville said: “We plan to create two brand new restaurants, new bar area and lounge and get the hotel back to being the hub of the community.

“The gym will open as soon as possible, and the pool we hope to open thereafter.”

G + S’s Alistair Letham, added: “The Popinjay Hotel has been a landmark hotel property in the Clyde valley for many years and this new chapter within the Melville Hotels Group will ensure perennial popularity of the hotel to visitors and locals alike.”
