Glasgow Distillery goes from strength to strength with two new bottlings

Glasgow Distillery has given whisky fans something powerful with which to toast the Bard this coming Burns Night, with the release of two cask strength bottlings.

These second batches of Glasgow 1770 Original and Glasgow 1770 Peated were introduced late last year.

The Original Cask Strength bottling is a vatting of three barrels. Bottled at 59.5% ABV, only 750 bottles have been released. The Peated whisky, meanwhile, was matured in three hogsheads. It was bottled at 60.7% ABV, with just 1000 bottles released.

“Following the sell-out success of Glasgow 1770 Cask Strength Batch 01, we wanted to offer our community another opportunity to experience our whisky as it comes, straight from the cask – bold, pure, and full of character,” said distillery co-founder, Mike Hayward.

“At The Glasgow Distillery, we’re passionate about every stage of the production process, from our hands on distilling process to selecting the best possible casks to use for maturation.

“By sharing these whiskies in their purest form, we’re able to offer our community a more direct connection to our craft and to the unique, evolving character of Glasgow 1770 single malt.”

The three barrels used in the Original Cask Strength bottling were handpicked for the ‘defining fruity characteristic’ that lies at the heart of Glasgow Distillery’s unpeated double distilled spirit style. This bottling is said to offer ‘prominent notes of zesty Seville orange marmalade, dried apricot, toffee apple, poached pear and toasted pineapple and rich dark fruits and luscious vanilla to finish’.

The three hogsheads that went into the Peated Cask Strength are said to showcase the signature BBQ-forward smoky style ‘with notes of tobacco leaf and opulent smoked Iberico ham married with sticky poached plums, dried apricot and flamed orange zest’.
