Brugal releases second limited edition rum using toasted cask technique

Ultra-premium rum brand, Brugal, has unveiled the second iteration of its limited-edition sipping rum collection, this time utilising casks that have been toasted with Dominican Arabica coffee beans.

Colección Visionaria Edición 02, Coffee, was developed by fifth generation Maestra Ronera, Jassil Villanueva Quintana, to build upon the success of Edición 01, which used cacao as the flavour source in the aromatic cask toasting technique being used by Brugal for this range.

Brugal hailed the ‘unique terroir’ of the Dominican Republic, where rich fertile soils and the cool, high-altitude climate give the locally grown Arabica coffee beans a dense, flavourful profile, which is then imparted into the French oak casks via the toasting process.

From those casks, the resulting rum is a dark golden liquid that on the nose is described as ‘exceptionally smooth, with rich notes of caramel layered with bitter dark chocolate, intermingled with sweet vanilla and subtle smoky hints’.

On the palate, it is said to offer ‘a gentle burst of spices — cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg’ giving way to hints of dried fruits, weaving into a deep coffee flavour, with the ‘subtle richness of oak’.

Colección Visionaria Edición 02, Coffee is, said Brugal, best enjoyed sipped slowly, neat or over ice, in line with the cherished ‘cafecito’ moment – a ritual celebrated in the Dominican Republic where friends, family, and community come together to pause and savour life.

Jassil Villanueva Quintana said: “Many stories and laughs have been shared over a cherished cafecito in the Dominican Republic. It is these warm moments and nostalgic aromas that we wanted to recreate in Colección Visionaria Edición 02.

“This new rum is a celebration of shared moments and memories, an invitation to enjoy the warmth of good company and the rich, inviting flavours of our homeland.”
