This August sees the UK’s most northerly mainland distillery, Dunnet Bay Distillers, celebrate its 10th birthday and the anniversary of its multi award-winning spirit, Rock Rose Gin.
To mark the occasion the Dunnet Bay team have crafted a celebratory, limited edition, Rock Rose Gin 10th Birthday Edition, complete in an ornate ceramic bottle.
Founders Martin and Claire Murray explained: “Our special 10th Birthday Edition has been lovingly hand-distilled using our precious key botanicals, along with Caithness summer berries and vanilla, to create a celebratory Rock Rose Gin that’s perfect for raising a glass to toast our 10 years!
“Our stunning intricate bottle design is a timeline which very cleverly wraps around the entire bottle highlighting exciting moments in our ten years and making it a fitting tribute to our big day.”
The nose of this bottling is described as ‘bursting with fresh strawberries and raspberries’. On the palate ‘warm juniper gives way to deliciously fruity notes rounded off with creamy vanilla’. It finishes with sweetness followed by light notes of rose and lemon sherbet.
Martin and Claire Murray pride themselves on creating premium, hand-crafted spirits which celebrate the heritage and provenance of Caithness by featuring locally-foraged botanicals that are distilled by hand in bespoke copper pot stills.
The original Rock Rose Gin features botanicals including juniper berries, rowan berries and sea buckthorn, along with the Rhodiola rosea (a rose in the rocks), which adds a delicate floral note.
10 years on, Dunnet Bay Distillers are recognised as key players on the Scottish spirits scene. Along with a range of Rock Rose Gin Editions, from Navy Strength and Seasonal Editions to an Old Tom Pink Grapefruit and Guest Flavours, the company offers a Holy Grass Vodka and the recently released Mapmakers Rum.
