Aimée’s spirit of the 60’s is unapologetically strong, feminine and fun

Introducing SLTN’s Spirit of the Sixties Cocktail Competition finalists:

The Miniskirt Agenda

by Aimée Ashworth, of La Jupe

“The image of something as simple to us now yet so controversial at the time is the miniskirt.

It represented so much more than a fashion choice, it was the ability in and of itself for a woman to make her choice.

The cocktail embodies this ideology – it’s bold, strong and unapologetic but feminine and fun.

It’s no secret that psychedelics were widely used at the time, hugely expanding and transforming art, music and style.

I’ve taken a whimsical approach to this with my inclusion of the famous ‘pick n mix’ foam mushrooms and citric acid sherbet.

Haig dimple whiskey was a popular dram at the time (with many often repurposing the bottle to use for lampshades) alongside chartreuse making its comeback in popularity from the 20’s-30’s.

My use of florals is fairly obvious to most I imagine, with “flower power” being a sort of catchphrase for the 60’s and 70’s.

Babycham is another sort of “tongue-in-cheek” addition, but holds an undeniable place of recognition among anyone I know that was around at the time and is still a huge guilty pleasure for many.”

The Miniskirt Agenda:

• Pick n mix foamy mushrooms- infused Haig whisky

• Babycham reduction

• Green chartreuse

• Lavender bitters

• Steeped rose petals, tonka bean and raspberry foam

• House citric acid raspberry and hibiscus sherbet
