A hotelier looking to own a piece of Scottish history might well be interested in Kincaid House Hotel in Milton of Campsie.
The 17th century property was once home to Clan Kincaid, a group with a long and storied history tied to the Scottish wars of independence and Jacobite uprisings.
The building itself dates back to 1690. Having been modernised and upgraded at various times in its lifetime, it now boasts nine en suite letting rooms and three staff/overflow rooms, a function suite that can cater for 100 covers, Conservatory restaurant and a separate bar, The Stable, which is located in the house’s former stables.
Kincaid House Hotel has been operated by the current owners, John and Morag Thomson, for decades.
John has a 45-year association with the hotel, having been manager when it was owned by Allied Brewers, and then as owner.
In the 1990s he worked with Historic Scotland to oversee an extensive restoration of the building. It was then refurbished and upgraded again in 2019.
He said: “The restoration was fantastic, but we also invested huge sums of money in fixtures and fittings and projects such as adding the capacious conservatory and maintaining the historic building.
“During the restoration, it became clear that several aspects of the building were much older than 1690 and we kept finding little treasures such as a fireplace behind a wall beside a staircase.
“It was one of the highlights of our tenure as owners and I am very proud to have been involved in the history of the building.
“However, 45 years is a long shift and we feel now, it is the right time to retire.
“We wish nothing but the best for the next custodians.”
The property is being marketed by DM Hall.
The company’s Margaret Mitchell said: “There has already been extensive interest in the property, which is of a character seldom seen on the market.”
