KING Charles served in the Royal Navy from 1971 to 1976, meaning he missed the daily rum ration – when the Royal Navy gave each of its sailors a ‘tot’ of rum each day – by just one year.
Fortunately he won’t have to do without his daily rum ration anymore, thanks to Pusser’s Rum, which launched a special Coronation Reserve rum ahead of the new monarch’s coronation.
A blend of aged rums from Guyana and Trinidad, the navy strength rum (54.5% ABV) was described by brand manager Steve Dingley as an ‘exceptional rum’ which ‘is a tribute to the traditions of the Royal Navy and the King’s naval service’.
The King served on various ships during his naval career, including HMS Bronington, which he was given command of in 1976.
