Whiskey-based Shanky’s Whip sets out to disrupt liqueur market

Biggar and Leith, importers of spirits and fancy foods from around the globe, have just launched Shanky’s Whip, a black Whiskey liqueur based on a combination of Irish spirits and aged pot still whiskey, blended with the natural flavour of vanilla and infused with caramel.

Distilled in Co. Cavan and blended and bottled by Shanky & Shireman under bond in Ireland, Shanky’s Whip is now available to purchase wholesale across the UK through distributor, Craftwork.

Presented in a bespoke glass bottle with the word Ireland embossed around the top, the brand’s label is inspired by vintage Irish matchbox artwork, featuring fantastical Irish jockey, Shanky. Famously, when thrown from his horse, he returned to the race track with an ostrich and cart and, of course, a whip.

Founder and CEO of Biggar and Leith, Elwyn Gladstone, said: “We’re excited to be bringing something brand new to the spirits category. Shanky’s Whip is an easy drinking, black, smooth Irish Whiskey liqueur that we think brings fun to the world of spirits.

“When we discovered Shanky’s Whip we couldn’t believe something so creamy didn’t actually have any cream in it. Creamy smooth, like stout, and without the burn of Whiskey.”

At an ABV of 33%, Shanky’s Whip can be drank on its own, mixed into a cocktail or with cola – or even dropped into a cold pint of stout.

Biggar & Leith is owned by Elwyn Gladstone, founder of Malfy Gin, and Mark Teasdale. Based in the New York area with a distribution network across the globe, the company takes its name from founder – and Elwyn Gladstone’s great-great-great-great-Grandfather – Thomas Gladstone, who in 1746 left his home in Biggar, Scotland to establish a spirits merchants in the port of Leith.
