Historic hotel sitting pretty in the Highlands

THERE’S a chance for a buyer to pick up a ‘piece of Scottish history’ in Argyll and Bute.

The Cuilfail Hotel (pronounced ‘cool-fail’) is located in the village of Kilmelford, 14 miles south of Oban.

A former drovers’ inn, the hotel was expanded during the Victorian era and sits in stunning countryside, located at the foot of rolling hills and lush woodland.

The Cuilfail Hotel includes 12 en suite bedrooms, a 40-cover restaurant and a function room which can cater for up to 90 people.

A spacious beer garden can seat an additional 30 guests.

The hotel’s private carpark can accommodate 20 cars and the property also includes owner’s accommodation split across two levels, which is accessible via a ‘secret’ staircase.

All the hotel’s plumbing and electrics have been upgraded by the building’s current owners – who have owned the hotel for the past 12 years – with the kitchen also having been modernised.

Nearby tourist attractions include Inveraray Jail, Oban Distillery, Carnasserie Castle and the famous Corryvreckan whirlpool, as well as the numerous islands that are accessible from Oban’s busy ferry port.

The hotel is also able to arrange fishing permits for the local lochs.

Selling agent Bruce & Co said the Cuilfail Hotel “enjoys a fantastic reputation in the area for its meals and functions”.

“Its en suite rooms are considered a local tourist attraction,” said the agency.

“With the Cuilfail Hotel, Bruce & Co. are proud to offer a truly exceptional piece of Scottish history to the market.”

Bruce & Co is seeking offers over £400,000 for the hotel.
