Grand old dame is on the market

Award-winning Stirling business is up for grabs

Sympathetically restored, the property and business are on the market in ‘walk-in’ condition.

IN THE shadow of Stirling Castle, in the town’s upmarket Kings Park area, the Victoria Square & The Orangery Restaurant is Five Star Gold rated by VisitScotland and is said to have a reputation as one of the finest places to eat and stay locally.

However, the proud architects of its renovation and success, Phil and Kari Couser, have nonetheless decided to sell the award-winning business, based on the principle that their work there is done – and it is ‘important to sell when you are still on the way up’.

The Cousers have run the business since 2013, opening initially as a seven letting room guest house before expanding to ten rooms in 2016. A restaurant was added in 2019 and the business was rebranded as a restaurant with rooms in 2021.

Inevitably, 2022 has been the first full year of trading in this model without interruption following the COVID pandemic, so the sellers have said there is still significant potential for growth.

The detached – and sympathetically restored – Victorian villa, comes complete with ten boutique style bedrooms plus staff accommodation, a residents lounge, private gardens and a car park.

The thirty two cover restaurant operates across the main breakfast/dining room, and the Conservatory/Orangery extension.

Commercial property agency Drysdale & Company is now offering the Victoria Square business for sale in walk in condition with no upgrading required. It is available for the freehold asking price of £1.3 million.

Phil Couser said: “Whilst we have no immediate plans to retire, and are open minded about new career and business opportunities, we decided to put the business on the market now because we always said it was important to sell when you are still on the way up.

He added: “We are very proud of what we have created here, Victoria Square being our first foray in hospitality. We will miss working with a great team of staff and, secondly, interacting with our diverse and international clientele. We wish any new owner well in their endeavours here.”

Updated trading information will be provided to serious parties on viewing the property.
