GlenAllachie’s latest comes of age with a powerful punch

THEY say that with age comes wisdom. In the case of GlenAllachie’s latest release, it also comes with a healthy kick of ABV.

The third batch of the independent distillery’s cask-strength 21 year-old was launched last month.

Limited to 2400 bottles worldwide, the 51.5% ABV whisky was matured in three vintage Pedro Ximénez Sherry puncheons and was bottled without chill filtration or added colouring.

The liquid itself is described as having flavours of ‘black grapes, fresh espresso, brandy butter and stem ginger, leading to indulgent dark chocolate fondant’.

The casks were selected by master distiller Billy Walker, who headed the consortium which acquired GlenAllachie in 2017. Earlier this year he marked his 50th anniversary in the industry.

Walker said: “Whisky is a waiting game, and after years of careful planning, I never tire of the anticipation; it’s pure excitement. Each and every cask at the distillery is regularly monitored to ensure we bottle the very best whisky available for each expression.

“This is what led me to pick these three richly seasoned sherry puncheons to create this new batch of our 21 year-old. The outcome is a multifaceted drinking experience that exudes sheer elegance. A whisky that I will sip and savour at the end of this milestone year.”
