Hotels firm reaches new heights

The Glasgow hotel has 278 bedrooms.

BRITANNIA Hotels has acquired its fifth hotel in Scotland after snapping up the Premier Inn at Glasgow’s Charing Cross in a deal brokered by Christie & Co.

The group, which has more than 60 properties across the UK, bought the 278-bedroom hotel for an undisclosed sum from a guide price of £8.5 million. It was sold by owner Whitbread as part of a reconfiguration of its hotels in Glasgow following the opening of the 249-bedroom Premier Inn at St Enoch Square.

Brian Sheldon, regional director of Scotland at Christie & Co, said: “This is a prime example of the buoyancy across the Glasgow and wider Scottish hotel market at present, with the demand for accommodation across Scotland on the rise.”
