Drinks firm in sustainable spirits

Smugglers Gin

SUSTAINABILITY is at the top of the agenda for a recently-established Scottish spirits company.

Edinburgh-based Smugglers Spirits was launched in 2020 by the Keane family, owners of Malones pubs in Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

The firm produces a number of spirits, including Malones Triple Cask Irish Whiskey and the 40% ABV Smugglers Gin. Botanicals for Smugglers Gin are from the Secret Garden Distillery in Edinburgh, and the gin is packaged in recycled and recyclable glass with labels and seals made from vegetable matter.

Rory Cowan, marketing director at Smugglers Spirits, said sustainability is a core value of the company.

“Partnering with the right distillery has been essential for us in creating a future-forward, sustainability-focused spirits brand,” he said.

“We’re a new business but we have big ambitions to increase sustainability at every level of production. And as we grow as a business, we intend to give back to the earth in the form of sustainability partnerships.”
