SHETLAND Distillery Company has again celebrated the island’s annual winter fire festival with the release of a limited edition cask-aged gin.
Shetland Reel Up Helly Aa was launched last month, despite the annual Up Helly Aa event in Lerwick not going ahead for a second year due to the pandemic.
Just 500 bottles of the 2022 expression, which was aged at Saxa Vord Distillery on Unst in casks previously used to store Stewart’s Rum, were released last week (25th January).
Shetland Distillery Company co-owner, Debbie Strang, said the company wanted to press ahead with its seventh annual release.
“Despite the postponement of the festival this year, we felt it was important to still produce a spectacular cask-aged gin that we hope people will enjoy whilst celebrating at home, or simply add to their growing collection of Up Helly Aa gins,” she said.
