THE on-trade in Scotland is leading the way when it comes to drinks trends in the UK, with the trends towards both gin and malt whisky said to be growing ahead of the rest of Great Britain.
Ifan Jenkins (pictured above), marketing director at William Grant & Sons, told SLTN that as spirits sales grow at a faster rate in Scotland than the UK generally, the strength of premium spirits sales in Scottish pubs and bars, as evidenced in the firm’s Trending 2020 Report, is an indicator of a “strong” on-trade.
He said: “As the home of single malt whisky, Scotland is leading the malt sub-category growth with both value growth and value share outstripping the rest of Great Britain. This trend is replicated in the gin category, where Scotland growth value of 63% continues to outperform the rest of Great Britain.”
